Community Involvement

The Carolina Forest community is a vital part of our practice's success; that's why Dr. Duncan and the staff at River Oaks Animal Hospital is thrilled to give back through volunteer work. Volunteering our time is one of the many ways we say thank you to the community, as well as help animals in need. We are currently working with Friends of HCACC to help heal and rehabilitate Lil' Bit, a well-known Chihuahua who was surrendered to the local animal shelter with bilateral broken front legs, Heartworm disease, malnutrition and numerous other problems.

We also sponsor many events at local schools, including "Day at the Bay," a festival at Ocean Bay Middle School and fundraisers for Ocean Bay Elementary School and Carolina Forest Middle School. We have also held fundraisers for Camp Smiles, an organization that sends children with disabilities to summer camp.

River Oaks also participates in the annual PetiCURE Party to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and we work with numerous local groups that transport animals to local shelters to rescue groups up north, including the New England Lab Rescue. We also support Ducks Unlimited, a non-profit organization whose mission is to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl, and we're a member of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Deuce, the Myrtle Beach Pelican's On-Field Best Friend

Baseball fans in the Myrtle Beach area know Deuce, the on-field best friend of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans who charms audiences as both bat boy and ball caddy. But did you know that Deuce is a patient at River Oaks Animal Hospital? That's right, when Pelicans are looking to take care of one of their most valuable assets, they come to our hospital to make sure Deuce get the best veterinary care possible, allowing him to provide baseballs to the umpire and, when the Pelicans win, make the postgame victory lap around the bases.
